Basic Training (Beginner) - $229/person

 

Approximately 4 hours

 

Basic Training is suitable for people who do not have any experience with espresso coffee or who have some experience and want to learn the correct basic techniques.

 

The program is made up of two 2 hour sessions with a 10 minute break in the middle. After the Basic Training program you will be able to:

 

  • Ensure that the coffee you serve stays fresh

  • Understand what stale coffee does to the flavour in the cup

  • Know and produce all the various kinds of coffee in the New Zealand market (i.e. Cappuccinos, Flat Whites, Lattes, Espresso {Short Blacks} and more)

  • Extract the ideal Espresso

  • Texturise and steam high quality milk with minimal wastage of milk

  • Free pour texturised milk to produce high quality coffee in an efficient manner

  • Establish sequences of service to ensure consistently high quality beverages are produced with maximum efficiency and minimal wastage

  • Ensure that your espresso machine is performing at its optimal level by performing Clean As You Go (CAYG) tasks during business hours.

  • Effectively perform an end-of-day clean on an espresso machine to help ensure your coffee does not taste bitter and burnt the next day

 

Within the Basic Training Program, each learner can go through an assessment session. In our experience we have found that assessments have aided the learning process in the following ways:

 

  • Motivates learners to adopt new knowledge and skills

  • Builds confidence for learners who pass the assessment

  • Provides specific feedback for areas of improvement

  • Provides learners with an understanding of the skills and knowledge required to consistently produce high quality espresso coffee
